Cookie Policy

Updated:

This policy explains how LoansPlus.co.za (“LoansPlus”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies and related technologies, what information they can collect, and the choices available to you.

LoansPlus.co.za is operated by Profitech Credit Solutions (Pty) Ltd. Read this policy alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains our wider practices for collecting, using, protecting and disclosing personal information under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).

1. What cookies and similar technologies do

Cookies are small pieces of information that a website stores in your browser. They can help remember a preference, recognise a browser or attribute a visit to a particular link. A cookie does not necessarily contain your name, but information associated with it can still be personal information.

  • First-party cookies are stored under the domain of the website you are visiting. Third-party services can also create or use cookies under that domain.
  • Third-party cookies are associated with a different domain, such as that of an advertising or analytics provider.
  • Session cookies are intended to last for a browser session. Persistent cookies have a specified expiry and may remain until they expire or are removed.

Related technologies include browser storage, tracking links and small scripts called beacons. Server logs can also record visits. These technologies do not all depend on cookies, so blocking cookies does not necessarily stop every website request or form of measurement.

2. Our cookie notice

Our cookie notice uses the following first-party cookie to remember that the notice has been acknowledged:

Cookie used by the LoansPlus notice
Name Provider and purpose Configured duration
CookieConsent LoansPlus. A functional cookie that remembers acknowledgement of the notice and reduces repeated display of it. 730 days from when it is set, subject to earlier deletion, browser expiry limits or other browser restrictions.

Despite its name, this cookie records acknowledgement of the notice; it does not record separate choices for analytics, advertising or other tracking purposes. Its stored value does not establish which other technologies have been enabled or disabled.

Acknowledging or closing the notice does not, by itself, switch off analytics or third-party scripts. The notice is not a control for accepting or rejecting individual tracking categories. The services and links described below may involve additional technologies.

3. Analytics and third-party scripts

Cloudflare Web Analytics

Our pages include a Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon to help measure website use and performance, including page views and loading times. Cloudflare states that this analytics service does not use cookies or browser storage to collect usage metrics and does not fingerprint individuals for analytics, meaning it does not combine device characteristics to recognise them for that purpose.

This description concerns Cloudflare Web Analytics specifically. Other services on the website may use cookies or process personal information. You can read more about Cloudflare Web Analytics and Cloudflare’s privacy practices.

Google-hosted scripts

Our pages may load a Google-hosted tag. Loading a third-party script can send technical request information to its provider, including your IP address and browser information. Further collection depends on the services enabled, their configuration and your browser settings.

We do not describe all information sent to Google as anonymous or assume it cannot be associated with other information. See how Google uses information from websites using its services and Google’s Privacy Policy.

4. Affiliate links and referral tracking

Some links to lenders, referral partners or other providers may be affiliate or tracking links. They may include a reference that tells the recipient that a visit came from LoansPlus. Depending on the arrangement, the recipient may use cookies or other identifiers to connect that visit with a later enquiry or transaction and calculate a referral fee or commission.

Tracking can therefore occur through a link even if third-party cookies are blocked. A destination website’s own privacy and cookie notices explain its collection, retention and available controls. A setting on LoansPlus does not automatically change settings on another website.

Referral attribution does not, by itself, authorise a credit check, an application for credit or unrelated marketing communications. Collection and sharing of loan enquiry information are explained separately in our Privacy Policy and the relevant form notice. Our Affiliate Disclaimer explains our commercial arrangements.

5. Information these technologies may collect

Depending on the technology involved, technical information may include your IP address, browser and device characteristics, page addresses, referring links, visit times, interactions, performance measurements and referral identifiers. Not every service collects every item.

These details may identify you or become identifiable when combined with other information. Removing a name, shortening an IP address or producing summary reports does not automatically make the underlying information anonymous.

Where information is personal information, POPIA and our Privacy Policy govern our handling of it. We must have a lawful ground for processing and limit collection and use to what is relevant and proportionate to the identified purpose. Describing a technology as cookie-free does not, by itself, remove privacy obligations.

6. Your choices and consent

You can use your browser’s privacy settings to inspect and delete cookies, block particular sites from storing them, or restrict third-party cookies. Your browser’s help pages explain the options available for your device.

  • Deleting our notice cookie may cause the notice to appear again. It does not itself stop other scripts from loading.
  • Blocking cookies can affect saved preferences and features that depend on them. Cookie-free analytics and ordinary server logging may still operate.
  • Browser settings generally apply to that browser or profile. You may need to adjust them separately on another device or browser.
  • Clearing cookies does not automatically delete information already received by us or another provider.

This policy explains our practices; it is not a substitute for consent where consent is required. Simply visiting, scrolling through a page, continuing to browse or closing a notice does not constitute informed consent to optional tracking.

Where we rely on consent, it must be voluntary, specific and informed, obtained before the relevant processing, and capable of being withdrawn. Any consent request must explain the purpose and how to change or withdraw the choice. A notice that only records acknowledgement does not provide those separate controls.

Cookie choices are separate from permission to receive marketing, submit a loan enquiry or disclose application information to a provider. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before withdrawal.

7. Retention, recipients and overseas processing

A cookie’s expiry controls how long it is intended to remain in your browser. It does not determine how long related information is held on a server. We retain personal information only for periods and purposes for which retention is lawfully authorised, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

Relevant technical information may be processed by providers supporting hosting, security, analytics and referral attribution. The information they receive depends on the service and its configuration.

Some providers may process information outside South Africa. Transfers of personal information must meet POPIA’s applicable requirements, including section 72. Our Privacy Policy explains our approach to service providers, overseas processing and the safeguards or other lawful grounds used for transfers.

You may contact us for information about the recipients, retention criteria or overseas processing relevant to your information. Linking to another provider’s policy does not remove our responsibilities for information we collect or disclose.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our website, providers or practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision.

Where a change requires additional notice or consent, publishing an updated policy alone does not replace that requirement. Continued browsing does not supply any new consent that is required, and an update does not retrospectively authorise processing that was unlawful.

9. Questions and privacy requests

To ask about cookies, request access to or correction or deletion of personal information, object to processing where permitted, or raise a privacy concern, contact us for the attention of the Information Officer at info@loansplus.co.za.

Including the page address and browser involved can help us investigate a technical issue. Please do not send passwords, online banking credentials or unnecessary identity documents.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle requests and complaints, including applicable conditions and how to contact South Africa’s Information Regulator. Nothing in this policy limits rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.
