About NHFC
It is part of everyone’s dream to purchase their own home one day but, with the current economic climate in the country, it is easier said than done.
This is why the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) works hard to make housing accessible and affordable for those who form part of the low to middle-income groups.
What they aim for
The NHFC is only one of several Development Finance Institutions that have been put into practice by the government with a focus on improving the current socio-economic status of the country. And one of the challenges that they aim to tackle is the provision of affordable housing for South Africans who form a part of the low- to middle-income groups.
The NHFC was established in 1996 and has since assisted thousands of South Africans to fund their dream homes. As a means of providing more sustainable funding, they search for ways to mobilise more affordable housing finance from a wide spectrum of lending organisations.
Delivering on their promises
To ensure the provision of sustainable housing projects, the NHFC grants project finance to Social Housing Institutions and Property Practitioners who are responsible for the creation of projects aimed towards property development. By partnering with various Retail Financial Intermediaries, they are able to increase access to sustainable lending and mobilise the funds for affordable housing development.
Development companies who are affiliated with them are also able to access innovative financial funding products such as government housing subsidies to further enable the completion of their projects.
NHFC Services
The NHFC is responsible for arranging various funding projects for the furtherment of housing development in South Africa.
If you are interested in obtaining funding for such a project, then have a look at the different funding programs they are currently offering access to.
NHFC funding programs
Their funding programs are geared towards creating housing solutions for the low- to middle-income markets by blending risk and sustainability. This funding is provided to the intermediaries that they are partnered with and they continue to provide support to these partners throughout the development process.
The funding is provided on the condition that 30% of the houses in development will be made accessible to those who fall within the low- to middle-income brackets.
Homeseeker funding
While they do not provide funding directly to the home seekers in need, they enable the ability for them to one day find a home by assisting the housing developers responsible for the projects. However, to qualify for access to these funds the home seeker needs to fall within the low- to middle-income bracket.
From here the home seeker can approach a financial institution and apply for a home that falls within the NHFC’s funded projects. When assessing the application, the SHIs will individually consider each loan application and provide them with an offer that is unique to their financial circumstances and needs.
