Review basis: Researched on 9 October 2026 using Finance 27’s product page and calculator, FAQs, application guide, terms and privacy policy. A search of the NCR register confirmed NCRCP7084. No application was submitted or personalised quotation obtained. No pricing effective date was identified; repayment-period discrepancies and incomplete fee and insurance disclosures are explained below. Suitability and value judgements are editorial assessments.

Finance 27 payday loan review: borrowing limits, costs and requirements

  • Provider: Finance Twenty Seven Micro Finance Institution (Pty) Ltd, trading as Finance 27, is a direct lender registered under NCRCP7084.
  • Amounts and repayment: R1,000–R7,200, subject to affordability. The main product page advertises 61–65 days, although another official page states 7–65 days. Confirm your repayment schedule.
  • Interest and costs: Finance 27 publishes a maximum APR of 38%. Its public example includes additional fees, but does not provide enough detail to reconcile the APR, repayment period and total cost. Credit-life insurance requirements remain unconfirmed.
  • Eligibility and application: Apply online. Employment, regular salary payments into your own bank account, and credit and affordability checks are required.
  • Best fit: A temporary cash shortfall with a clear repayment source. The main limitation is incomplete public cost information: compare the written quotation before committing.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Finance 27

With Finance 27, I would focus on how much of the borrowing cost comes from fees. Its published example puts considerably more of the cost into fees than interest. That matters if you expect to repay early: ask which charges would actually fall away, rather than assuming a shorter borrowing period reduces every cost. I would compare quotations for the same cash amount and repayment dates, then check how much salary remains after each instalment. Covering one shortfall offers little relief if the repayment creates another.

Finance 27 eligibility and documents

The FAQ specifies South African citizens over 18 who are employed and receive a regular salary into their own active bank account. The homepage instead refers to residents aged 18 or over; confirm eligibility if that distinction affects you.

Prepare your South African ID number, contact and address details, employer information, proof of income, banking details and an accurate breakdown of expenses and existing repayments. Finance 27 verifies income and assesses creditworthiness. Its public guide does not specify a fixed number of payslips or bank statements, so confirm the documents needed for your application.

When a Finance 27 payday loan may suit you

This loan may suit an employed borrower facing a one-off essential expense, provided the repayments leave enough for living costs and existing debt. Assess the balance remaining after each collection, rather than relying on the amount approved.

Reconsider if borrowing has become part of your monthly budget or you expect to need another loan to repay this one. Compare other short-term borrowing options, an employer salary advance or a payment arrangement with the business you owe. If existing repayments are already unaffordable, explore debt counselling before adding credit.

How to apply and repay

Application process

  1. Use Finance 27’s calculator to select an amount and salary date, then register on its official website or log in.
  2. Provide your financial information and complete the lender’s verification checks. Its guide describes bank verification through TruID.
  3. Review the pre-agreement quotation, repayment dates and debit-order mandate before accepting.

Approved funds go into your own salary account. Repayments use debit orders, including DebiCheck, which lets you confirm the collection details. Read the lender’s privacy notice before submitting financial information.

Approval and payout timing

Finance 27 advertises approval within 24 hours and payment on the approval day. Its FAQ also allows 24 hours for funds to reflect. Treat these as advertised timings, with access to money dependent on completed checks and bank processing.

Questions to resolve in your quotation

  • What cash amount will reach my account, and what is the total repayable?
  • How many instalments apply, on which dates, and why does the quoted term differ from any advertised period?
  • What interest rate applies, how is it calculated, and which charges are included in the stated APR?
  • What initiation, service and other fees apply, including VAT?
  • Is credit-life insurance required? What are its premium, exclusions, waiting periods and claim conditions?
  • What would early settlement, a missed payment or a revised repayment arrangement cost?

Finance 27 advantages and limitations

  • Online access: Applications can be submitted without a branch visit, although submission does not establish approval.
  • Repayment verification: DebiCheck provides an opportunity to check the collection mandate against the agreement.
  • Limited pricing transparency: The public example does not itemise fees or explain its relationship to the advertised APR.
  • Conflicting term information: The homepage states 61–65 days, while the undated qualification article states 7–65 days. Availability of the shorter terms was not confirmed.
  • Repeat-borrowing risk: Finance 27 describes subsequent borrowing as separate loans, rather than a revolving facility. Compare the new charges each time.

Finance 27 interest, fees and total repayment

The lender labels 38% as its maximum annual percentage rate. The inspected pages do not explain sufficiently which costs that figure includes or provide a complete initiation and service-fee tariff. Do not read it as a monthly rate or assume it establishes your total borrowing cost.

Published R5,000 example

Finance 27’s homepage example shows R5,000 borrowed, R74 interest, R868 fees and R5,942 total repayment. The arithmetic adds up. Our calculation puts the additional cost at R942, or 18.84% of the amount borrowed; that percentage is not an APR.

The example does not identify its repayment period, instalment schedule, fee components or insurance treatment. It therefore cannot verify the advertised APR or establish what your loan would cost. Fees account for most of its additional cost, making the itemised quotation more useful than the interest figure alone.

Insurance and early settlement

The public material reviewed does not establish whether credit-life cover is compulsory or what premiums and exclusions apply. The terms permit early settlement without advance notice, with outstanding principal and accrued interest, fees and applicable insurance payable. Request a dated settlement figure.

Missed payments, support and complaints

Finance 27 warns that missed payments attract further charges and may lead to collection action. Its published default terms also mention a 34% debt-collection fee. This is a clause requiring clarification, not a verified charge applicable to every case: request its calculation and legal basis.

Contact Finance 27 promptly on 012 941 1572 or info@finance27.co.za if repayment becomes difficult. Ask for any revised arrangement and costs in writing. For an unresolved credit complaint, contact the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 or complaints@ncr.org.za.

Is Finance 27 worth considering?

Finance 27’s strongest feature is its online application process for a small, temporary borrowing need. Its main weakness is the incomplete and inconsistent public explanation of terms and costs. Compare written quotations for the same amount and repayment dates across payday loan providers; choose only if both the total cost and the money left after repayment are acceptable.

Finance 27 payday loan questions

Is Finance 27 a registered lender or a loan-matching service?

Finance 27 is a direct lender. The NCR register listed Finance Twenty Seven Micro Finance Institution (Pty) Ltd, trading as Finance 27, under NCRCP7084 when checked on 9 October 2026. Your quotation should identify that legal entity. Registration establishes its regulatory status; it does not establish that its offer costs less than another lender’s.

Does Finance 27’s 38% maximum APR make it cheaper than other payday loans?

The published figure alone cannot establish that. Finance 27’s R5,000 example includes R74 interest and R868 fees, but omits the repayment period needed to assess the annualised cost. When comparing payday loan offers, match the cash received and repayment dates, then compare total repayments. Request an itemised breakdown showing VAT and any required insurance rather than assuming the advertised APR captures every charge.

Is a Finance 27 loan repaid on my next payday or over two months?

The official information is inconsistent: the homepage advertises 61–65 days, while its qualification article states 7–65 days. Neither establishes the schedule you will receive. Check your quotation’s instalment amounts, collection dates and final payment date. A term covering two paydays does not, by itself, mean two equal repayments or that nothing is payable until the end.

Can I qualify with bad credit or existing loans, and is Finance 27 easier to qualify for?

Finance 27 says a poor credit record or existing debt does not automatically exclude an applicant. It still checks credit history, income and repayment capacity. No verified approval-rate comparison establishes that it is easier to qualify for than competing lenders. Its willingness to consider an application should not be confused with approval or an affordable offer.

Does same-day approval mean the money will be available immediately?

Not necessarily. Finance 27 says it sends payment on the approval day, but its FAQ allows 24 hours for funds to reflect. It pays into your own salary bank account, with no cash payouts or payments to someone else’s account. When comparing urgent borrowing options, distinguish the lender’s approval time from the time your bank makes the money available.

Does Finance 27’s no-upfront-payment policy mean the loan has no fees?

No. Finance 27 says it does not require payment before releasing a loan, but its published example includes borrowing fees. The distinction is between paying money to obtain a payout and repaying charges under the credit agreement. If someone requests a release payment, verify the demand directly with Finance 27 on 012 941 1572.

Can I repay Finance 27 early, and how should I compare the saving?

Its terms allow settlement without advance notice, with outstanding principal and interest, fees and applicable insurance payable up to the settlement date. Request a dated settlement quotation and compare it with the scheduled payments remaining. Do not assume settling halfway through the term halves the borrowing cost: charges already incurred may still be payable.

Is another Finance 27 loan a top-up or a reusable credit facility?

Finance 27 describes each subsequent loan as a separate agreement and says it does not offer revolving credit facilities. Ask which fees apply again and whether any existing balance must first be settled. If you expect to borrow repeatedly, compare the combined charges across successive loans with a suitable personal loan, including the longer commitment and total repayment that alternative would create.

Can Finance 27 adjust repayments if I cannot pay, and what could that cost?

Its FAQ says alternative arrangements may be considered, but a change is not automatic. Request the revised dates, instalments and total outstanding cost in writing. The published default terms also mention a 34% debt-collection fee; its applicability and legal basis require clarification rather than treating it as a verified charge in every case. Contact Finance 27 before the payment date if you anticipate difficulty.
