Mr Cash Loans
Compare short-term loans through Mr Cash Loans in South Africa: R500–R8,000 over 1–6 months. Check rates, fees and eligibility. Subject to approval.
Review basis: Researched on 9 October 2026 using Mr Cash Loans’ official short-term loan page, cost disclosures, qualifying criteria, document requirements, application form and terms and privacy policy. Pricing pages display no effective date and contain unresolved fee and repayment inconsistencies, explained below. Registration claims and lender-specific insurance terms were not independently verified. This is a review of published information; no application was submitted or personalised quotation obtained. Suitability comments are editorial assessments.
Mr Cash Loans short-term loan review
- Service: Mr Cash Loans connects applicants with lending partners. Its application terms say it does not make credit decisions.
- Amounts and terms: Advertised short-term borrowing of R500–R8,000 over 1–6 months, subject to approval, for temporary cash needs.
- Interest and APR: Published guidance lists maximum monthly interest of 5% for a first loan in a calendar year and 3% for subsequent loans that year. The homepage advertises 36%–60% APR, but a verified rate incorporating all compulsory costs was not established.
- Other costs: A R69 monthly service fee, initiation fee and credit life premium are listed. Initiation-fee wording is inconsistent; confirm the insurance requirement and full cost in the lender’s quotation.
- Eligibility and application: An online application for employed South African citizens, subject to income, employment, credit and affordability checks. Identity and income documents are required.
- Best fit: A borrower with a temporary shortfall and enough disposable income to repay within six months.
- Main limitation: The matching service does not establish your final lender or price upfront, and its published repayment example does not reconcile.
Alexander Balanoff on Mr Cash Loans
With Mr Cash Loans, I would focus on the lender’s written offer and what it costs to repay the cash you actually receive. Being matched with a lender is useful, but it leaves the price comparison to you. Ask for a schedule that accounts for every instalment, fee and required insurance premium, then compare another quotation for the same amount and repayment dates. At LoansPlus, we encourage that second comparison because finding an available loan can create pressure to accept it. The decisive question is whether the offer is competitive and leaves your next few paydays manageable.
Mr Cash Loans eligibility and documents
The published criteria require:
- South African citizenship and permanent employment with the same employer for at least six consecutive months.
- Monthly earnings above R6,500, with salary paid into a South African bank account in your name. The page does not specify whether this threshold is gross or net income.
- Sufficient income after expenses and existing commitments, assessed alongside your credit record.
- No current debt review, administration or sequestration. Self-employed applicants are excluded from this application route.
The criteria page specifies older than 18 and younger than 60, while the application terms say 18 or over. Confirm eligibility if you are 18 or approaching the upper age limit.
Have your South African ID, latest payslip and three months’ recent bank statements ready. The document checklist also allows for additional verification, such as proof of address.
When this short-term loan may suit you
This route may suit a once-off expense that your next few salaries can absorb. Spreading repayment can ease pressure on one payday, but additional months can add interest, service fees and insurance premiums.
Compare quotations from other short-term loan providers for the same amount and term. If repayment needs longer, assess personal loan alternatives by total cost. For recurring arrears, consider debt counselling before adding another instalment.
How the Mr Cash Loans application works
Application and lender assessment
- Complete the official online form with your requested amount, identity, employment, salary, deductions and living expenses.
- Read the consent fields. They cover credit checks and partner referrals, with further wording about unsuccessful applications being referred for debt assistance and future marketing.
- Supply verification documents when requested. A lending partner assesses the application and decides whether to offer credit.
- Check the lender’s identity, quotation, repayment schedule and agreement before accepting.
The privacy policy permits information sharing with selected lenders and financial companies. Applying can therefore result in contact from another business.
How long does approval take?
The terms describe notification within 24 hours for prequalified applications. Prequalification is an initial screening result, not final approval or a confirmed payout time. Do not plan an urgent payment around that notification period.
Contact, repayment support and complaints
Mr Cash Loans’ contact page lists 087 822 1779, Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:00. For payment difficulties, contact the lender named in your agreement before the instalment falls due and request any revised arrangement in writing.
Raise application-service issues with Mr Cash Loans and account disputes with the lender. Suspected National Credit Act breaches can be referred to the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 or complaints@ncr.org.za.
Questions to resolve before accepting
- Who is the credit provider, and does its legal name match its entry in the NCR register?
- How much reaches my account, and what is the total repayable including VAT, fees and insurance?
- Is the initiation fee financed, and does it attract interest?
- Is credit life compulsory, what does it exclude, and can suitable existing cover be accepted?
- What are the debit dates, early-settlement terms and consequences of missed payments?
Advantages and limitations
- Free matching application: You can request an offer without committing to a loan.
- No asset security advertised: The loans are described as unsecured, although repayment obligations remain.
- Instalment options: Several repayments may be more manageable than one payday deduction.
- Unclear advance pricing: Published figures cannot reliably establish your complete borrowing cost.
- Partner involvement: Your lender, insurance terms and servicing arrangements depend on the resulting offer.
Mr Cash Loans interest, fees and total cost
The published monthly interest figures are upper-limit guidance, not a personalised offer. The homepage’s 36%–60% APR wording does not explain how fees and insurance enter that calculation. Do not use it as a verified all-in annual borrowing cost.
- Service fee: R69 monthly; the cost page says the first month is prorated.
- Initiation fee: The product page describes R165 plus 10% of the amount above R1,000, capped at R1,050 excluding VAT. The cost page also states that all fees include VAT. These disclosures do not clearly establish one consistent VAT-inclusive calculation.
- Credit life: The cost page lists R4.50 per R1,000 monthly. The inspected pages do not establish the applicable insurer, exclusions, waiting periods or whether every partner requires this cover. Obtain the policy before accepting.
Published R8,000 example: inconsistent repayments
The official example lists R8,000 over six months, 3% monthly interest, a R995 initiation fee, a R69 monthly fee, R1,730 monthly repayments and R10,344 total repayment. It does not separately identify the insurance premium or confirm its inclusion.
Arithmetic check: Six payments of R1,730 equal R10,380, which is R36 above the stated total. Neither figure should be treated as a verified repayment quotation. Request a reconciled schedule showing every payment and cost.
Compare the total repayable with the cash actually received. A manageable instalment can still represent expensive borrowing, particularly when fixed fees form a large share of a small loan.
Is Mr Cash Loans worth considering?
Its strongest feature is a free online route to lending partners. Its main weakness is inconsistent published cost information. Consider an offer only after the named lender supplies a complete, internally consistent quotation that compares favourably with alternatives and fits your budget.
Mr Cash Loans short-term loan FAQs
Does Mr Cash Loans lend directly or compare offers from other lenders?
Its application terms describe a matching service that refers applicants to selected lending partners and does not make credit decisions. This does not establish a whole-market comparison or mean you will receive several competing quotations. Ask which lender is making the offer; that lender’s pricing, insurance and repayment arrangements are what you need to compare.
How does its short-term loan differ from its payday loan?
The product page advertises R500–R8,000 over 1–6 months for short-term loans, compared with R500–R4,000 repayable on the next payday for payday loans. The ranges overlap, so the repayment schedule matters more than the label. When comparing payday loan options, check whether your offer requires one deduction or several instalments, and how much the longer schedule adds to the total cost.
Can I qualify with bad credit, or while under debt review?
A poor credit record does not remove the need for credit and affordability checks. Mr Cash Loans’ criteria specifically exclude applicants under debt review, administration or sequestration. These exclusions are separate from having a low credit score. Its willingness to consider an enquiry should therefore not be interpreted as acceptance of every adverse credit situation.
Can bank statements replace a payslip if I am self-employed or recently changed jobs?
The document checklist requires both a latest payslip and three months’ bank statements; it does not identify statements as a substitute. The criteria also require six consecutive months of permanent employment with the same employer and exclude self-employed applicants from this route. Regular deposits alone therefore do not establish eligibility. If your income falls outside these conditions, compare providers that explicitly accept your employment type.
Does its free application make Mr Cash Loans cheaper than applying directly?
No price advantage is established by the free matching service. Published borrowing costs include a R69 monthly service fee, interest, an initiation fee and credit life insurance. The initiation-fee disclosures also leave the VAT-inclusive calculation unclear. Compare any matched offer with other short-term loan quotations using the same cash amount received and repayment dates. A lower advertised interest rate can still accompany a higher total repayment.
Is credit life insurance included, and can it change which offer is cheaper?
Mr Cash Loans’ cost page lists credit life at R4.50 per R1,000 monthly, but the inspected disclosures do not establish every partner’s insurance requirement or policy terms. Ask whether the quoted instalment includes the premium, what amount it is calculated on, and whether suitable existing cover is accepted. Compare exclusions and waiting periods as well as price; a premium figure alone does not establish what a claim would pay.
Can I use the calculator or R8,000 example to compare repayments?
The calculator provides estimates, and the published example contains a mismatch: six payments of R1,730 total R10,380, while the page states R10,344. Insurance inclusion is also unclear. Use a lender-issued repayment schedule for comparisons and request an explanation of the example discrepancy. Neither published total establishes what your own loan would cost.
Does notification within 24 hours mean the money will arrive that day?
No. The application terms describe notification within 24 hours if an application is prequalified, followed by a request for documents. That is an initial screening stage, not confirmation of disbursement. If speed determines your choice of provider, ask the proposed lender when funds can be released after document verification and acceptance, rather than comparing an initial response time with another lender’s payout time.
Who can receive my details, including if my application is declined?
The application form includes consent wording for sharing information with credit partners and financial companies. It also includes a field covering referral to a debt counsellor or financial company if the application is unsuccessful, plus a separate marketing field. Review each before submitting. If you want to restrict contact to a particular lender, clarify the referral recipients first; declining marketing does not itself explain or cancel application-related sharing.
