Review basis: Researched on 7 October 2026 using FinChoice’s official personal-loan page, application portal, loan agreement terms, Personal Protection Plan wording and support articles linked below. The main website advertises R25,000, while the application portal displays R40,000; eligibility for the higher limit was not explained. A current numerical interest rate, APR and complete fee schedule could not be verified from the accessible official material.

This is an assessment of published information, not a report of personal borrowing experience. No application was submitted or personalised quotation obtained. Registration numbers below are FinChoice’s published disclosures; current registration status was not independently confirmed in the NCR register. Confirm the applicable terms and policy version with your quotation.

FinChoice personal loan: summary

  • Provider: Direct lending under the FinChoice brand. Published loan terms identify FinChoice Africa Ltd and state NCRCP8162. Its website also lists FinChoice Finance (Pty) Ltd, NCRCP23514; check which entity appears on your agreement.
  • Purpose, amounts and terms: An unsecured instalment loan for personal expenses. The main website advertises up to R25,000 over 6, 12 or 24 months; the application portal advertises up to R40,000. Your approved offer determines availability.
  • Interest and APR: The applicable interest rate is disclosed in your quotation. A current public rate range or APR could not be verified.
  • Fees and insurance: Allow for an initiation fee, service fees and compulsory credit life cover or an accepted substitute policy. Confirm the amounts, insured benefits and exclusions before accepting.
  • Eligibility: Approval depends on credit and affordability checks, verification of your details and any documents requested.
  • Application and payout: Apply through finchoice.mobi. FinChoice’s March 2026 support guidance allows up to 24 working hours for payout after documents and verification steps are complete.
  • Suitability and limitation: Worth comparing for a defined expense that fits your repayment budget. Conflicting advertised limits and quotation-dependent pricing make the written offer essential.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on FinChoice

With a FinChoice top-up, I would focus on the extra cash you receive and the additional repayments you take on. If the new loan settles an existing balance, part of your borrowing pays off earlier debt. Compare the new total repayment with the payments still due on your current loan, and check how far the final repayment date moves. At LoansPlus, we encourage that comparison because a smaller monthly instalment can make a longer commitment look attractive. The useful question is whether the extra cash justifies the extra cost and time in debt.

FinChoice eligibility and required information

FinChoice’s application asks for your ID number, cellphone number, employment status and net salary, with permission for a credit bureau enquiry. Its application guide also requests income, household expenses, banking details, address and employer information.

Have your ID and supporting income and banking documents available. Upload the documents specifically requested for your application; the accessible sources did not establish one document checklist, minimum salary or credit-score threshold applying to every applicant.

FinChoice’s privacy policy explains its use of personal information for credit, fraud and affordability checks, including information obtained from credit bureaus. An initial quotation does not establish final approval.

Who should consider a FinChoice personal loan?

Consider it for a specific expense where you can repay a fixed monthly commitment without relying on further borrowing. Comparing the same amount over the same term with other personal loan offers makes differences in total cost easier to identify.

Reconsider if you need more than your confirmed limit, depend on an immediate payout or already borrow to cover routine bills. If existing repayments are unaffordable, explore debt counselling before adding another commitment. A lower monthly instalment from refinancing is only useful if the overall cost and repayment period remain manageable.

FinChoice’s MobiMoney facility is a separate product. Its withdrawal features and pricing should not be treated as personal-loan terms.

How the FinChoice application works

Application and acceptance

  1. Start through FinChoice’s official mobile website and select the personal-loan product.
  2. Provide your personal and financial information for assessment.
  3. Review the offered amount, repayment period, fees, insurance and total repayment. FinChoice’s application guide includes an option to propose replacement credit life cover.
  4. If accepting, complete the agreement, DebiCheck debit-order mandate and requested document uploads.

When will the money arrive?

The payout FAQ updated on 17 March 2026 says the process can take up to 24 working hours after all documents and verification steps are complete. This qualifies the main website’s shorter “24 hours” wording. Do not plan a payment deadline around an unapproved application.

Questions to ask before accepting

  • Which legal entity is lending, and what amount will actually reach my bank account?
  • What annual interest rate applies, is it fixed or variable, and what is the total repayment including insurance and fees?
  • Is the initiation fee financed, and does the quoted instalment include every compulsory charge?
  • Which insurance benefits apply to my employment status, and what would replacement cover need to provide?
  • When is the first debit order, and how would a payment skip change later instalments and total cost?
  • Does the advertised 14-day no-cost return apply to this agreement, and what notification and repayment steps are required?

FinChoice advantages and limitations

  • Online access: Applications, document uploads and account management can be handled remotely.
  • Payment flexibility: Eligible customers can request a payment skip, subject to the revised repayment offer.
  • Unclear advertised ceiling: The two official channels display different maximum amounts without explaining the distinction.
  • Limited upfront cost comparison: A personalised quotation is needed to establish the applicable interest and charges.
  • Insurance restrictions: Compulsory cover has eligibility conditions, waiting periods and exclusions; it does not cover every loss of income.

FinChoice interest, fees and total repayment

The published loan terms place the applicable rate and charges in the pre-agreement statement and quotation.

  • Interest: Calculated on the daily outstanding balance and added monthly.
  • Initiation fee: May be paid separately or added to the loan balance.
  • Service fee: Disclosed in the quotation.
  • Missed payments: Arrears can attract additional interest and permitted collection or default charges.

A current numerical rate, APR or complete official repayment example could not be verified. The older “from 24%” figure should therefore not be used as current pricing.

Compulsory credit life cover

The published Personal Protection Plan, underwritten by Guardrisk Life, describes credit life insurance as compulsory. Your policy schedule determines the benefits you receive. Confirm the premium and whether FinChoice accepts your proposed substitute cover.

The wording bases personal-loan premiums on the initial balance at a rate per R1,000; the applicable rate needs confirmation. Eligible death or permanent-disability claims can settle the outstanding liability. Standard temporary-disability and retrenchment benefits pay qualifying instalments for a limited period rather than automatically clearing the loan.

For terms of 12 months or longer, the wording specifies three-month waiting periods for disability and retrenchment benefits. Restrictions include pre-existing conditions and employment-related exclusions. Resignation and voluntary retrenchment are excluded; self-employed and contract workers do not receive retrenchment cover under this wording. Check the policy issued with your offer.

Compare the cash received with the complete repayment

Compare all scheduled repayments plus any separately paid charges with the cash you receive. Avoid counting fees twice if they are already included in instalments. A longer term may ease monthly pressure while increasing the overall borrowing cost. Affordability requires room for essentials and existing debts after the instalment is paid.

Is a FinChoice personal loan worth considering?

FinChoice’s strongest feature is its online application and account management, with conditional repayment flexibility. Its main limitation is that public advertising does not establish a consistent borrowing ceiling or your complete price. The decisive comparison is the total repayment for the amount you actually receive, over a term you can afford.

FinChoice personal-loan FAQs

Can I borrow R40,000, or is FinChoice’s limit R25,000?

FinChoice’s main product page advertises up to R25,000, while its application portal displays up to R40,000. The inspected pages do not explain who qualifies for the higher ceiling. Do not assume it applies automatically to returning customers. If you need more than R25,000, confirm availability before comparing repayments: a cheaper offer for less than you need may leave you requiring a second loan.

How can I tell whether FinChoice is cheaper than another personal-loan provider?

Request quotations for the same cash amount and repayment term. FinChoice’s terms disclose interest, an initiation fee and a service fee, with credit life cover adding to the cost. Check whether the initiation fee is financed and whether insurance is included in the displayed instalment. Compare the total repayments plus separately paid charges across personal-loan offers. A lower interest rate can still produce a more expensive agreement once fees and insurance are included.

Is FinChoice easier to qualify for than a bank loan if I have bad credit?

No verified approval data establishes that FinChoice is more accommodating than a bank. Its application requires permission for a credit bureau enquiry, and approval depends on credit and affordability assessments. A published minimum credit score could not be verified, so a score alone cannot establish eligibility. If another lender declined you, first identify whether the reason was incorrect credit information, repayment history or insufficient disposable income; changing providers does not resolve each of those problems.

Should I compare a FinChoice personal loan with MobiMoney?

They serve different repayment needs. FinChoice advertises personal-loan terms of 6, 12 or 24 months, while MobiMoney offers a facility of up to R10,000 with withdrawals repayable over 1, 2 or 3 months, subject to qualification. MobiMoney’s free activation does not mean withdrawals are free. Compare the complete cost of funding your expense and the repayment dates: a shorter facility can place substantially more pressure on your next few salaries.

Can I use my own credit life insurance, and what should I compare?

FinChoice’s application guide allows you to propose replacement cover and submit its documents. This is subject to acceptance and does not remove the compulsory-cover requirement. Compare both premiums and benefits: the published FinChoice policy wording bases personal-loan premiums on the initial balance. Check whether an alternative uses a reducing balance, covers your employment status and has different waiting periods or exclusions. A lower premium is less useful if the replacement excludes a risk you need covered.

Does a FinChoice top-up give me a second loan or replace my existing one?

Under the published loan terms, an existing balance must be settled before a new personal-loan agreement is entered into. You can ask FinChoice to use the new loan to settle it and pay you the difference, called the KwikDraw amount. The terms calculate the new initiation fee on that difference. Approval requires another affordability assessment. Compare the extra cash received, new total repayment and final repayment date: refinancing may extend how long you repay the old balance.

How useful is FinChoice’s payment-skip option when comparing lenders?

It offers conditional flexibility, rather than an automatic repayment holiday. FinChoice’s payment-skip guidance requires a good repayment record with no missed or disputed instalments. The request displays a revised instalment and payment date for acceptance. Compare the revised total repayment with the original schedule and ask which charges continue during the skipped month. This feature is less useful if you are already in arrears and do not meet its conditions.

Can I settle early, and how do I work out whether it saves money?

FinChoice’s loan terms allow early settlement. Request a dated figure through its settlement-quote process, then compare that amount with all remaining scheduled payments, including insurance. Ask which charges are included and when insurance premiums stop. Do not assume every fee already paid will be refunded. If another lender is financing the settlement, compare that lender’s entire repayment cost with keeping the existing loan.

What should I do if I cannot repay or dispute a charge?

Contact FinChoice customer care on 0861 346 246 or submit a support ticket. For repayment difficulty, request an arrangement and written details of its cost and credit-reporting implications. For a disputed charge, identify the transaction and request the contractual basis and a corrected statement. If several debts are unaffordable, consider debt counselling before refinancing.

For an unresolved credit complaint, contact the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 or complaints@ncr.org.za. Insurance disputes follow FinChoice’s separate insurance complaints process; keep your policy schedule, correspondence and any claim decision.
