Wesbank CashPower Personal Loan
Compare WesBank personal loans: R5,000–R350,000 over 24–72 months. Review CashPower interest rates, fees and requirements. Subject to approval.
Review basis: Reviewed on 8 October 2026 against WesBank’s CashPower product and pricing information, application form, published loan agreement dated June 2024 and the NCR register. Advertised rates are dated May 2026. The pricing-example discrepancy is explained below; individual insurance premiums, policy exclusions and a firm payout time could not be verified. Product facts come from these sources; suitability and comparisons are editorial assessments.
WesBank CashPower personal loan review
- Provider: WesBank is a division of FirstRand Bank Limited, registered under NCRCP20. DirectAxis sells and administers CashPower.
- Loan and purpose: An unsecured personal loan of R5,000–R350,000 over 24–72 months, subject to assessment. Listed uses include renovations, education, medical expenses, vehicle purchases and debt consolidation.
- Interest and APR: Advertised fixed interest of 18.00%–28.00% per annum, compounded monthly, dated May 2026. Your rate is personalised. A separate APR including all compulsory costs was not identified.
- Fees and insurance: A monthly service fee of R69 applies; the published example includes a R1,207.50 initiation fee. Credit-life cover is required under the published agreement, with equivalent replacement cover permitted. Confirm your premium and full charges in the quotation.
- Requirements and application: Minimum monthly income of R5,000, identity and supporting financial documents, and credit approval. Apply through the official CashPower website or call 0861 30 2020.
- Suitability: Worth comparing for a defined expense where regular income can support repayments. Fixed interest helps budgeting, but insurance premiums may change.
- Main limitation: The minimum two-year term can make a small borrowing need expensive. The public example also leaves uncertainty about the complete cost breakdown.
Alexander Balanoff on Wesbank
With a WesBank CashPower loan, I would assess the repayment plan using the income available today. A longer term can look attractive if you expect to clear the balance with a future bonus, but that saving depends on money you may not receive. At LoansPlus, we encourage borrowers to compare the cost of following the full repayment schedule before counting on early settlement. The loan should fit your current budget, with extra repayments providing an opportunity to reduce the cost.
WesBank personal loan requirements
The CashPower application checklist specifies:
- Monthly income of at least R5,000.
- Your most recent three months’ bank-generated PDF statements or a payslip as proof of income; the application process confirms the documents required.
- A clear copy of your identity document.
- Proof of address no older than three months.
Meeting the income threshold does not establish affordability. Your income, expenses, existing repayments and credit profile affect the lending decision. The published agreement excludes applicants under debt review, administration or sequestration. If married in community of property, WesBank requires written spousal consent.
Who should consider CashPower?
CashPower may suit someone funding a necessary, one-off expense who wants a defined repayment period. Compare other personal loan offers using the same amount and term before deciding whether the fixed rate represents reasonable value.
Reconsider if you need less than R5,000, could repay much sooner than two years, or need credit repeatedly for groceries and bills. A smaller payment spread over six years can conceal a much larger commitment. If existing repayments are already unaffordable, consider debt counselling before adding another loan.
For a vehicle purchase, compare car finance separately. CashPower is unsecured, but that does not remove your repayment obligation if the vehicle is damaged, stolen or becomes unusable.
How the CashPower application works
Application and assessment
Use the official application form to select an amount, term and purpose, or call 0861 30 2020. WesBank advertises telephone assistance from 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Sunday.
Provide the requested information and documents, then review any personalised quotation before accepting. Confirm the debit order and any required DebiCheck authorisation. Document validation and any replacement insurance approval must be completed before payment.
Approval and payout timing
A firm CashPower payout deadline was not verified. An initial response, final approval and cleared funds are separate stages. Ask when payment can be released once your documents and agreement have been accepted.
Repayment support and complaints
If a payment may be missed, contact CashPower promptly using the account contact details in your welcome letter. The CashPower terms website also lists 021 764 3545 and cashpowerccd@directaxis.co.za.
For unresolved service concerns, DirectAxis’s complaints team lists 021 764 3152. Keep your complaint reference and correspondence. After completing the provider’s complaints process, eligible disputes can be referred to the National Financial Ombud Scheme on 0860 800 900.
Questions to ask before accepting
- What amount will reach my account, and what is the total repayable including insurance and every fee?
- Is the initiation fee paid upfront or financed, and what interest will financing it add?
- Which parts of my monthly payment can change despite the fixed interest rate?
- What does the insurance cover for my employment status, and which exclusions and waiting periods apply?
- How much would a shorter term save, and what happens to the repayment schedule if I pay extra?
- If consolidating debt, which accounts will be settled and closed, and will the new loan reduce the remaining total cost?
CashPower advantages and limitations
- Fixed interest: Reduces exposure to interest-rate changes during repayment.
- Repayment flexibility: Extra payments and early settlement are permitted without a penalty.
- Unsecured borrowing: You do not need to pledge a vehicle or property as security.
- Minimum two-year commitment: Poorly matched to a cash shortage you could clear within a few months.
- Costs beyond interest: Service fees and required insurance increase the amount you must budget for.
- Incomplete public cost illustration: The example does not provide an insurance breakdown, and a separate CashPower page quotes a different example rate.
WesBank CashPower interest, fees and insurance
The advertised 18.00%–28.00% annual interest range is compounded monthly and dated May 2026. It is not an all-in APR. Your quotation determines the rate offered and the complete repayment obligation.
The published monthly service fee is R69. The example initiation fee is R1,207.50; confirm the fee for your loan. Financing that charge adds interest. Missed payments may bring additional interest, collection costs and adverse credit reporting.
Required credit-life cover
The published agreement requires credit-life insurance but permits equivalent replacement cover approved by the lender. Premiums may be reviewed annually. Benefits depend on employment status, with limited income-loss cover where applicable. Obtain your policy’s exclusions and waiting periods; the precise CashPower policy schedule was not verified.
Budget using the full debit order. A fixed interest rate does not establish that insurance premiums or permissible service charges remain unchanged.
Published example and verification limit
WesBank’s main page illustrates R60,000 over 72 months at 24.75% annual interest, with a R1,207.50 initiation fee, R69 monthly service fee and a stated total of R137,754.32.
A separate WesBank-branded CashPower page gives 24.50% for the same amount, fees, term and total. Neither example itemises insurance. These disclosures could not be reconciled, so the stated total should not be treated as a verified repayment calculation or your expected offer. Request an itemised quotation.
Is WesBank CashPower worth considering?
CashPower’s strongest feature is fixed-interest borrowing with scope to repay early. Its main limitation is the cost of carrying an unsecured balance for several years, especially once monthly charges and insurance are included. Compare the full amount repayable with competing offers for the same borrowing amount and term. Choose a shorter affordable term where the saving justifies the higher instalment.
WesBank CashPower personal loan FAQs
How much can I borrow, and can I choose a shorter repayment term?
The CashPower application form offers R5,000–R350,000 over 24–72 months, subject to assessment. If you need less than R5,000 or a contractual term below two years, compare providers offering those options. Borrowing extra to meet a product’s minimum adds a repayment obligation you may not need.
How should I compare a WesBank quote with another personal loan offer?
Compare quotations for the same cash amount received and repayment term, including initiation fees, service fees and credit-life premiums. Check whether fees are financed into the balance. CashPower’s advertised interest rate excludes these additional costs, so a lower rate alone does not establish a cheaper loan. Compare personal loan options using the itemised total repayable.
Can my monthly payment change despite CashPower’s fixed interest rate?
Yes. The published agreement allows annual insurance-premium reviews and permissible service-fee changes. Fixed interest does not make every component of the debit order fixed. When comparing offers, ask which charges can change and whether the quoted insurance premium stays constant, reduces with the balance or follows another calculation.
Can I use my own credit-life insurance instead of WesBank’s protection plan?
The CashPower agreement requires credit-life cover but permits an equivalent replacement policy, subject to approval and the lender being named as loss payee. Compare premiums alongside benefits, exclusions and waiting periods. An existing life policy should not be assumed to satisfy these requirements.
Will CashPower settle my existing debts directly?
Under its consolidation terms, the lender pays specified creditors and requests account closure. You remain responsible for settlement shortfalls and confirming closure. Before accepting, obtain current settlement figures and compare the new total repayable with the payments remaining on those debts. See debt consolidation considerations.
Can I make extra repayments or settle CashPower early without a penalty?
Yes. Payments cover outstanding interest and charges before reducing principal, and allocated extra payments are non-refundable. Request a settlement quotation for full repayment. If you expect a bonus or other lump sum, ask how paying it early would affect the remaining term and total cost; do not assume it automatically reduces your scheduled instalment.
Does approval mean my CashPower loan will be paid out that day?
No firm same-day payout commitment was verified. Payment depends on document validation and, where applicable, replacement-cover approval and DebiCheck authentication. For an urgent expense, ask which requirements remain outstanding and when funds should clear in your account. A provider’s initial decision time is not necessarily its payout time.
Should I compare CashPower with vehicle finance when buying a car?
Yes. CashPower lists vehicle purchases as an allowed purpose and is unsecured. Compare it with a vehicle finance quotation for the same purchase, allowing for any deposit, balloon payment, fees and insurance requirements. A smaller monthly instalment may leave a substantial final payment, so compare the complete repayment schedule.
Why does DirectAxis handle a WesBank CashPower application?
DirectAxis sells and administers CashPower within FirstRand Bank. Its involvement is part of the product’s administration. If you also obtain a DirectAxis-branded offer, check the lender, product name and quotation details: shared administration does not establish identical pricing or make the two brands independent lenders.
